Visual Memory: what to know before playing

Read the aim of Visual Memory, then make your first move. Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Look at what changes after your first action.

Take a closer look while playing

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Refer to the controls when needed.

The purpose of your moves

Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Start here and follow along

  1. Start a round and watch the highlighted cells.
  2. Wait until the board hides the pattern.
  3. Select the positions you remember; order does not matter.
  4. Complete the pattern to advance.

Using the playing area

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Use the control method described here for this activity. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Put the rules into context

If the four corner squares were shown, select those four corners in any order. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Watch out for this

Unlike Sequence Memory, this game does not require the original order. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
