Making your first moves in Golf Solitaire

Read the aim of Golf Solitaire, then make your first move. Remove all 35 tableau cards. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Look at what changes after your first action.

Seven columns of five, one stock pass. Free solo play, no wagering.

Something to practise

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

The goal to keep in mind

Remove all 35 tableau cards. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Check the rules when you are unsure.

How to proceed

  1. Take an exposed bottom card one rank above or below the waste top, allowing ace–king wrapping.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

The controls to know

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A closer look at one example

Waste queen accepts jack or king. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Verify the rule before continuing.

A useful caution

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
